"For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ."

1 Corinthians 12:12

Dear Beloved All,

There is a phrase that our congregation has recently been walking with: “do the good that is yours to do.” When looking for a church home, you will find there is a lot of “good” that churches are doing. The question becomes, what is the good that is yours to do and how will that particular church foster an invitation and opportunity to share of your gifts and experience the presence of God? What makes your heart come alive? Where do you see a great hunger in the world and how do you hear the call from God to meet that hunger? Where do you find the intersection with the Holy?

As a congregation nestled alongside the Patapsco State Park trail system on 10 acres of property, we understand our “good” to be stewards and caretakers of God’s creation. We have a Holy Hikers group and we cultivate opportunities for retreat. As a congregation with rich diversity, we also believe the “good that is ours to do” is to live into a radical welcome of all. We are a diverse congregation of different ethnicities, ages, family orientations, and spiritual gifts. We welcome LGBTQ families and we are committed to the hard work of reconciliation and justice. Located just 20 minutes outside the city of Baltimore, in Howard County, we also participate in the “good” that many of our mission partners are doing such as work with recovery and addiction and serving the housing insecure.

We also believe the “good that is ours to do” is to create space for worship in a world that is hungry for sabbath. You will find that our worship services include elements of traditional and contemporary with both the organ and piano. We also have an outdoor chapel and delight in occasional services out in God’s creation. Seeking to be responsive to different learning styles, our services touch all of our senses from auditory to visual to kinesthetic. We also believe that children are a valuable and beloved part of our community. We offer Sunday school for children of all ages during our 10:00 am worship service; however, children are also encouraged to attend worship as well. Parents, please know that we are a congregation that welcomes the wiggle and gives thanks for the giggle! A highlight for our congregation every summer is our beloved Vacation Bible School!

I would love to meet you over a cup of coffee to get to know your story and what you are seeking in your walk of faith. Whether you are a lifelong member or a passing visitor, however you come, know that you are welcome at Mount Hebron Presbyterian Church.

Blessings,
Pastor Amy
