Bible Study & Adult Discussion Groups

Adult education is an ongoing part of life at Mt. Hebron. The main program that many of our adults are involved in is the GRAND SWEEP program that leads participants to read through the Bible in a year. Daily there is a selection of three or four chapters of the Bible to read, along with a reflection in the Grand Sweep study guide. This material is supplemented by information provided by Rev. Venable. It is a program that can be started at any time.

In addition to this program, the Ministry of Nurture and Spiritual Growth sponsors three or four programs a year. Past topics have included: Presbyterian Beliefs 101; a program on prayer; one on depression; a four week study of the Parable of the Prodigal Son; and the Old Testament from Scratch. For the past several years, Mt. Hebron has joined with members from Bethany United Methodist Church in a yearlong study of the Bible.

One final way we try to promote spiritual growth among adults is by holding a “Spiritual Resource Fair” in November. Representatives from Cokesbury Book Store bring a wide variety of spiritual resources to Mt. Hebron for people to examine and purchase. When people have finished using these resources, they are encouraged to donate them to the Church.
