Outreach
Part of our responsibility as disciples of Jesus Christ is to seek to share God’s love in service to others. Mt. Hebron is actively involved in the following outreach projects:
Our Daily Bread
Members participate in this Baltimore City soup kitchen program by baking casseroles each month to help feed the homeless and by serving lunches to those in need once a quarter. In addition, we contribute cereal, tea, silverware, and other needed items in support of this ministry.
Habitat for Humanitay
Volunteers from Mount Hebron join with members of other churches and community groups to build and renovate houses for low income individuals. We usually help out twice a year.
Christian Services of Howard County (Thrift Shop)
Our members volunteer their time, food, clothing, and financial support to help the needy in Howard county through the "Thrift Shop" located at 3267 Pine Orchard Lane, Ellicott City.
Stop Waste and Trash (S.W.A.T.)
Members of our church seek to enhance our environment by coming together four times a year to pick up trash along a one mile section of Route 40 in Ellicott City.
Supporting Education for Guatemalan Children
Through the Presbytery of Baltimore, Mt. Hebron provides the funds necessary to allow four Guatemalan children to attend public school. This is a project supported by our Sunday School program.
Middle School Youth Dances
A number of years ago, members of Mt. Hebron realized a need in the community. Middle School youth had very few activities in which to participate. In response to this need, Mt. Hebron began to hold 8 dances a year for Middle School youth. This program has become so popular that now the 220 tickets available each month are usually all purchased by the middle of the week prior to the dance.
Additional Activities
In addition to these activities, Mt. Hebron supports mission work in our local community and around the world through our benevolent giving. Each year we contribute over 10% of our budget to a variety of causes. We support missionaries in Alaska, Germany, and Japan. We contribute to a new church development in Mt. Airy and the McKim center – a program for youth in downtown Baltimore. We respond to disasters (hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, floods, etc) through of “Disaster Relief Offering” collected in February. We support any member of the Church who is interested in participating in a mission project. In the past we have helped youth attend a youth triennium in Indiana, raised money for AIDS in Montana, and do medical relief work in Peru. We have purchased blankets to help families in Cambodia. We have collected shoes for children in Iraq and Russia. We help six families at Thanksgiving through the Thrift Shop program, and mental patients at Springfield hospital at Christmas.
